Why token mix changes the answer

A 100M-token workload cannot be priced exactly without input, output and cache shares. At the displayed example rates it spans $400 if all tokens are input and $2,000 if all are output. An illustrative 80% input / 20% output mix is $720.

Memory is capacity, not concurrency

raw weight GB ≈ parameters in billions × bits ÷ 8. A 397B model is about 198.5 GB at 4-bit before runtime and KV cache. A 1T model is 500 GB at 4-bit or 2,000 GB at 16-bit. Four 128 GB Sparks cover only the raw 1T 4-bit weight arithmetic; sixteen cover the raw 16-bit arithmetic. Real serving still needs headroom and benchmarks.

Current hardware correction

NVIDIA lists DGX Spark at $4,699, 128 GB and 140 W SoC TDP. Apple announced a 512 GB M5 Ultra Mac Studio for late October 2026, so its configured 512 GB price is not yet a current purchase fact on 13 September.
